April 12, 2021 Grand Island

Hey y'all! How has everyone been? It's been a week of warm weather, lots of wind, and crazy people.

A couple of things happened this week that I thought were worth mentioning.
First, as we were knocking on doors, I felt impressed to leave pass along cards with our number on the member's that didn't answer. As we went along, there was a guy in the parking lot  who just straight up pulled down his pants and peed. Nebraska is wild y'all.
Also, someone called our number from the pass along card! He is not the member we were looking for. His name is Adam, h doesn't speak much English, and we're going over on Tuesday!
The pinnacle of our week occurred on Saturday. It was my 2 month anniversary! Sister Spendlove went all out on decorating the bathroom and my desk and she made breakfast muffins and took me out for rootbeer floats. She's honestly the sweetest!
Elder Walton made chocolate truffles from SCRATCH for my two months!
And then, probably the most hilarious thing that happened this week: we went to our Lutheran church weekly food drive. And their church is composed of grandparent aged individuals and its pretty difficult for them to stack and move all of the boxes that the cars ask for. But they also don't like our church so we've been told that we can't help them if we wear our proselytizing clothes or even our name tags. But this week, when we went, there was a man dressed in a white button up with a tie, booty dress shorts, and dress shoes. And we were a little surprised, because they've asked us not to wear dress clothes like that!
I found myself in a group with this man, who introduced himself as Danny Dwayne from Chicago. Danny Dwayne flies in every year to help the Grand Island high school plays, and when he was in town, one of the Lutheran ministers (named Jim) called up Danny Dwayne to wear 'missionary clothes' to protest that the missionaries weren't allowed to. Danny Dwayne told me that he was going to have a tag made, but there wasn't enough time, but that he was a firm believe in protesting inequality and that the only gay black man who went to this Lutheran church, he was in so many minorities that no one could call him out on his outfit!
Sorry my email is short. I probably won't have a chance to reply to anyone's emails. Tomorrow we have transfers so we have a district dinner that we're all helping make- cordon Bleu and macarons (the baker Elder Walton is really good but the most stressful baker I have ever worked under- did you know that you can break egg whites???)

Anyways, love you all! Look for the miracles in your life and you will find that the Lord has been with you in all of your travels.

Love,
Sister Brice
