March 22, 2021 Grand Island
Well, brothers and sisters! This week has been crazy and I don't know where to start...
We picked up a new investigator! As you may have guessed, her name is Debbie. She was previously taught by the Elders but was deemed too crazy to continue so they dropped her... (She followed them around on P Days and called daily and some other crazy stories). But she contacted the sister missionaries so we have her now? Debbie has a long history of missionary contact where she sort-of listens to the lessons and mostly just wants service. So we're going to go in and see if her desire has changed... We meet with her for the first time in person on Thursday, so pray for us!
We do a LOT of service here in Grand Island. Which is a lot of fun and a lot of work. We are supposed to get 6-10 hours of service a week, and we aren't allowed to go over that number but we accidentally did this week. Oops! I banged my knee during a weekly food drive we do with the Lutheran church and we've been helping people move and digging up trees so it hasn't had much of a chance to heal yet.
Also, we received a text from one of the Elders that a investigator had given them four different flavored loaves of banana bread. All of the companionships raced out of their apartments and it was super funny. (We got the walnut, but apparently his chocolate one is famous)...
We met a less active family through our service! They told us that they'd feed us on Sunday, but got sick last minute and ordered us pizza hut. We felt like sinners picking up pizza on a Sunday!
We went door to door knocking for the first time! We're only allowed to knock on members doors, but the first Lady opened the door, confirmed she was Mary Ann, told us that she wasn't interested in Jehovah's witness. We told her that we were from the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She told us that she wasn't interested in that either and shut the door in our faces. We couldn't stop laughing! I can't believe how many people forget that they are a member! They had to be at least eight to be baptized, so they should have some sort of recollection of it, right? I guess not.
I'm learning to crochet!
Also, the stake president and my mission president called us this week! Since we are the only sisters in the zone and stake, we've been asked to visit with all the YW. Some of the wards are so far away that we will have to stay overnight! And apparently, the way that the church does that is that we sleep in the resident elder's house and they bunk with the closest companionship. It sounds kind of mean to kick the Elders out of their houses, but it will be fun to meet all the YW. We're going to meet with each ward in person and follow up with each YW over zoom. It will be a party!
Well, those are probably the highlights.
I love and miss y'all!
